nothing of immense importance
maybe just books ive read
or maybe challenges related to books
technically, i should read 27.49* pages
but i think thirty* pages would be a better idea
so thirty* pages every single day
so that way i can finish all of the books by the end of the year
BUTT, i will also provide my book reviews here
*might not be accurate...
FOUR out of five stars
it was a good book, and i have read it before
and i am glad to have read it again
it is definitely more of a children's book
which makes sense as that is when i had read it previously
but even so, it is still a great book
it tells the story of TWO people
and is different from most books in that sense
like the narration style yk
it was a very easy, very short read
and i would recommend it to anyone really
especially if you want to learn more about the sudanese cival war (1980s)
EASILY FIVE out of five stars
absolutely amazing book, and i am glad to have read it
i honestly just picked it up because of the cover
which looked kind of funny, as it is a caricature of the author
but the book is more than incredible
it covers the story of "Chin", or Luis Rodriguez
and how he grew in in Las Lomas, or The Hills
and all of the struggles he went through
especially in reference to drugs and gang influence
i wont say too much about it, as you should just read it
(it is not a large read, and absolutely engaging)
not only is it an interesting read
it is also highly educational / informational
even with the oncome of easily accessible information
people have stayed relatively the same level of educated on these topics
(or even lesser so, considering the mountain of misinformation)
honestly i think everybody should read this book
(although it isn't very appropriate for younger audiences)
at the very least, it is history
it represents an eternal problem with the world
and it is told from a new and encaptivating perspective
it is a life's story, and briliantly written
edit:
more importantly, it also discusses opinions on change
such as the needs and motivations for it
as well as the ideas behind it, and doctrines
it does so in a way that isn't entirely direct
but the point is still put accross and clear
you may notice the strikethroughs on some of the info
that is because i am changing out some of the books i originally decided on
it made more sense to choose books that interested me
especially if i was going to spend a lot of time reading them
my apologies for the delay :/
this should have been updated days ago
but unfortunately, i have been fairly busy with everything starting back up
the full title of this book is A Gringo manual on How to Handle Mexicans
this book definitely sounds very racist and supremacist
but it isn't, you really cannot judge a book by its cover here
the book talks about the many ways / methods / tricks that have been used
typically by the majority, white americans
to control the minority, particularily chicanos
i think that this is an important thing to read
as it highlights a lot of things that may go entirely unnoticed otherwise
just as an example, one of the tricks
was just how many protests by chicanos are labled as violent
painted instead as mindless riots, than a fight for equality
as well as how chicanos would be treated differently in terms of protests
how they would be targetted specifically to stop such protests
with these methods that were unfair and injust
such as charging the chicano with a violation of parading without a permit
when in reality, they are not parading, they are protesting
and protesting is an american right
honestly, i was more than hesitant in terms of reading this book
as i assumed it would draw all white americans as racist and predujiced
and after reading, i can safely say that no, it does not
at best, the book describes the measures
(or tricks as the author calls them)
generally taken to discriminate against chicanos
and then also includes the countermeasures for each problem
therefore, it is perfectly reasonable to employ these countermeasures
regardless of your opposition may be
because even IF, there is no discrimination or racism present whatsoever
(which is rarely the case, even now unfortunately)
you are strengthening yourself and your cause
you have nothing to lose by reading this book, and everything to gain
this book just has general advice on how to organize protests and meetings
as well as certain techniques to ensure that your message is heard
normally i put the rating at the beginning of the review
but i got carried away a bit
hopefully life doesn't get in the way of reading more books
and i can actually commit time to my hobbies -_-
ANYWAYS, i would give this book a FOUR out of five stars
the reason for why it doesn't get five is because it gets a bit dry at times
but for the purposes that the book is for, it makes sense
and doesn't get in the way of the message of the book
but for myself, it would get a bit boring at times
nonetheless, very good book
